Helpful Elder Care Tips For The Unusual Fall Humidity In OC

With fall now supposedly in full swing but the temperature higher than ever, it doesn't help a lick that the humidity level is higher than it's been in recent memory, too.
Here in Orange County, elders are at a higher risk for suffering from heat-related illnesses and conditions than people in their youth, as the lagging summer heat continues to be backed by unruly percentages of humidity seemingly day after day.

Still, there are some preventive measures that will go a long way for senior protection during this strange weather period that all of Southern California seems to be stricken by. Take a look below at some of the easiest and most effective senior care tips for protection against the dense heat wave currently sweeping the West Coast:
  • Drink more fluids-- regardless of your activity level. Did you know that by the time you start feeling thirsty, you're already dehydrated? Fill up on fluids now more than usual for this time of year, as the best way to compensate against the unexpected heat wave is to be abundantly prepared with fluids in our systems (alcoholic or sugary beverages do NOT count-- in fact, they will cause you to LOSE more body fluids!).
  • Stay indoors-- preferably in air-conditioned settings. Even if your home doesn't have air conditioning, go to a local mall-- there's plenty of them here in the OC!-- and get cooled off for a few hours until the peak of the day has passed.
  • Wear lightweight and light-colored clothing. This allows more oxygen into your skin, especially if you wear loose-fitting clothing-- let your skin breathe as much as possible with this warm weather!
